Rory McIlroy kicked off his PGA Tour season in spectacular fashion, securing his 27th career victory with a two-shot win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The Northern Irishman delivered an impressive final round, surging ahead with a dominant back-nine performance.

Heading into the final round one stroke behind Sepp Straka, McIlroy remained steady through the front nine before making his move. A stunning five-under stretch over six holes, including an eagle on the par-five 14th, propelled him to a four-shot lead. Closing with a six-under-par 66, McIlroy finished at 21 under for the tournament.

Final Leaderboard Highlights:

  • 1st – Rory McIlroy (-21)
  • 2nd – Shane Lowry (-19)
  • T-3rd – Justin Rose & Lucas Glover (-18)
  • T-7th – Tom Kim & Sepp Straka (-16)
  • T-9th – Scottie Scheffler (-15)

McIlroy's triumph was made more exciting by a late charge from Lowry, who birdied five of his last eight holes to secure second place. Meanwhile, Justin Rose finished tied for third after a sensational final-hole eagle.

How the Final Round Unfolded

Straka’s lead quickly slipped away after an early bogey, allowing McIlroy and Lowry to take control. McIlroy’s birdies at the 10th and 12th gave him a comfortable lead before his long-range eagle putt at the 14th all but sealed the victory. Despite a late surge from Lowry, McIlroy maintained his advantage and calmly two-putted on the 18th to claim the title.
McIlroy’s latest win marks his first in California since 2015 and continues his streak of securing at least one PGA Tour victory each season for the past eight years.

McIlroy Reflects on Victory

Speaking after the win, McIlroy expressed his delight at triumphing on such a historic course:
“Some people have questioned the venues I’ve won on, but to get a win at Pebble Beach – one of the cathedrals of golf – is really special. I knew it was going to be a tough day with so many players in contention, but I focused on playing my own game and taking my chances when they came.”

He also highlighted his ambitions for the season ahead:

“I told my caddie walking up the last – start as you mean to go on. I’m feeling as determined as ever, and this early win gives me great momentum heading into the next events.”

Looking Ahead

The PGA Tour now moves to Arizona for the WM Phoenix Open, followed by the Genesis Invitational, where McIlroy will be looking to build on his strong start to the season. Golf fans can look forward to another thrilling competition as the world’s top players battle for further honours.
