Jon Rahm's LIV Golf switch - Shane Lowry 'not surprised by anything that happens' in golf anymore
Shane Lowry, a Team Europe Ryder Cup participant, stated at the Irish Open launch that "I'm not surprised by anything that happens at the minute" in the game of golf. The player believes Jon Rahm will be able to rejoin the squad after switching to LIV Golf.
After Jon Rahm moved to LIV Golf, Shane Lowry sees nothing shocking in golf anymore, but he still has optimism that the men's game may come together in the future.
Although many players openly criticised the covert nature of the negotiations that resulted in the June framework agreement between the American circuit, the DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV, Rahm had been a devoted supporter of the PGA Tour.
The latest development at a turbulent time for the game was Rahm's transfer earlier this month, and Lowry acknowledges that he is no longer surprised by anything.
"We weren't too surprised in the end, but I'm not surprised by anything that happens at the minute," Lowry said at the launch of the Irish Open.
"It had been rumoured for a while so there's no smoke without fire, is there?"
With the launch of the Saudi-backed league in 2022, players from the PGA Tour, including Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and Phil Mickelson, left to participate in the league's 54-hole, limited-field tournaments.
Rahm expressed his expectation that he will be able to play throughout tours after making the transfer.
