Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf team finally got their TGL campaign off the mark with a thrilling 7–5 victory over Justin Rose’s Los Angeles side at the SoFi Center in Florida.

After going winless during the inaugural TGL season in 2025, Boston started the 2026 campaign in style thanks to a standout performance from Michael Thorbjornsen. Stepping in with Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama unavailable, the 24-year-old produced a superb display under pressure.

The decisive moment came on the final hole, where Thorbjornsen rolled in a nerveless 15-foot eagle putt to seal Boston’s first-ever TGL win. Earlier, he had also drained a 17-footer at the 12th to give his side a crucial lead, becoming the first player in TGL history to hole four putts from outside 10 feet in a single match.

McIlroy also played a key role, facing Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose in singles. The Northern Irishman earned an important point with a birdie at the 10th, having earlier nudged Boston ahead during the triples format with a clutch putt as the Hammer was taken.

Speaking after the match, McIlroy admitted the win was long overdue:
“It’s been a long time coming for Keegan and I. There were lots of quality shots, plenty of birdies and eagles, and it was back and forth all night. It was great fun to be part of.”

The victory marks a positive start to Boston Common’s second TGL season and will give McIlroy’s side confidence as the tech-infused team golf league continues to grow in popularity.
